Transition Planning: Assistive Technologies for Learning
Assistive technology is specialized and sometimes complex technology that students can use to overcome barriers to learning, usually related to reading and writing. Ensuring that the technology is well matched to the individual student’s need is critical so that the student has the support they require to be successful with their learning on a day to day basis.
A student that requires assistive technology will have changing needs as learning demands change from year to year and from learning environment to learning environment. No matter how simple or complex the transition, the new start always means that steps must be taken to ensure that what assistive technologies were working well for the student are continued and what wasn’t working well is re-examined and improved upon.
